About Nicky
I was born and have lived in all my life in Athlone. I have two children, daughter Caren and son Eoin. I was educated in St. Joseph’s College, Summerhill, Athlone and I have a diploma in legal studies from Athlone Institute of Technology. I worked for nine years in a busy doctor’s surgery and five years managing the family business.
I am a former member of Athlone Town Council, Westmeath County Council and Westmeath VEC. I also served as Chairman of Athlone Community College Board of Management, was a Director of Athlone eCom and a Director of Athlone Regional Sports Centre. I am currently a Director of Athlone’s Dean Crowe Theatre and Arts Centre and I am President of Athlone Guide Dog Association. I was elected to Seanad Éireann (Administrative Panel) in July 2007, and appointed Fine Gael Seanad Spokesperson on Social and Family Affairs in October, 2007.
As a mother of two young adults I know at first hand the challenges and anxiety’s facing families daily. I am passionately committed to and have a track record of assisting people who have to wait for essential medical treatment; those who live in poor housing or who are homeless; and children who suffer overcrowded classrooms. I am committed to stamping out crime so that our cherished older people are not living in fear in their own homes. I am equally committed to attracting industry and employment to Longford and Westmeath. I will never tire of promoting the fantastic tourism package that is unique and special to the Midlands.
